Care Guide
How to Care for Your Furniture & Homewares
Quality furniture and homewares are an investment in your home. With the right care, every piece will maintain its beauty and function for years to come. Here's our guide to looking after the most common materials in our collection.
Solid Oak
Oak is one of the most durable furniture woods, prized for its strength and beautiful grain. To keep your oak furniture looking its best:
- Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid feather dusters, which can scratch.
- Wipe up spills immediately — oak is naturally resistant to moisture, but prolonged contact can cause staining.
- Apply a quality furniture oil or wax every 6-12 months to nourish the wood and maintain its lustre.
- Avoid placing in direct sunlight, which can cause uneven fading over time.
- Use coasters, placemats, and trivets to protect surfaces from heat and moisture rings.
- Oak will develop a richer, deeper tone as it ages — this natural patina is one of its most beautiful qualities.
Mango Wood
Mango wood brings warmth and individuality to every piece, with natural variations in grain and tone that make each item unique.
- Dust with a soft cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners.
- Treat with beeswax polish or furniture oil every 6 months to enhance the natural warmth of the grain.
- Keep away from direct heat sources and prolonged sunlight to prevent fading and cracking.
- Minor scratches can often be concealed with a matching furniture wax.
Pine
Pine is a softer wood that develops character over time, with knots darkening and surfaces mellowing to a warm amber tone.
- Wax or oil regularly to protect the surface and build up a protective patina.
- Pine scratches more easily than hardwoods — many people consider this part of its charm.
- Minor marks can be sanded out gently and refinished at home.
- Avoid wet cloths; use a slightly damp cloth followed by a dry one if cleaning is needed.
Metal Furniture & Lighting
Metal frames, light fittings, and accessories are generally low-maintenance, but a little care goes a long way.
- Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry immediately to prevent water marks.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners or scourers, which can damage finishes.
- For brass or copper finishes, a specialist metal polish can restore shine if needed.
- Indoor metal furniture rarely needs more than regular dusting.
- Outdoor metal furniture should be checked seasonally for signs of rust and treated promptly.
Glass
Glass surfaces on tables, shelving, and mirrors are easy to maintain with the right approach.
- Clean with a quality glass cleaner and a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Avoid abrasive materials that could scratch the surface.
- For tempered glass tabletops, use coasters and placemats to prevent scratching from crockery.
Upholstery & Fabric
Sofas, armchairs, cushions, and other upholstered pieces benefit from regular, gentle maintenance.
- Vacuum regularly with an upholstery attachment to remove dust and debris.
- Rotate and plump cushions regularly to ensure even wear.
- Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth — avoid rubbing, which can spread the stain.
- Spot clean with a mild detergent solution; always test on a hidden area first.
- Professional cleaning is recommended for stubborn stains or annual deep cleaning.
- Keep upholstered furniture away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
Leather
Leather furniture develops a beautiful patina over time, becoming softer and more characterful with use.
- Wipe down regularly with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
- Apply a leather conditioner every 6-12 months to keep the hide supple and prevent cracking.
- Avoid placing in direct sunlight or near radiators.
- Blot spills immediately — never rub.
- Keep sharp objects away from leather surfaces.
Rattan & Natural Fibres
Rattan, seagrass, and wicker bring wonderful organic texture to a home. Keep them looking their best with minimal effort.
- Dust with a soft brush or vacuum with a brush attachment.
- Wipe with a damp cloth if needed and dry thoroughly — avoid soaking.
- Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight and excessive moisture.
- Natural fibres may loosen slightly over time; this is normal and adds to the handcrafted character.
Outdoor Furniture
Our outdoor furniture is designed to withstand the elements, but a little seasonal care will keep it looking fresh.
- Wipe down aluminium and PE wicker with a damp cloth and mild soap solution.
- Store cushions indoors or in a weatherproof storage box when not in use.
- Wooden outdoor furniture benefits from an annual application of teak or hardwood oil.
- Cover furniture during extended periods of heavy rain or snow if possible.
